Come Work With Us

Cheesemaker Opportunity

Asgaard Farm & Dairy is a diversified family farm located between the Champlain Valley and the High Peaks regions of the Adirondack Park in northeastern New York.  This historic property was once the home of Rockwell Kent, well-known artist, writer, adventurer, political activist and farmer.  Our anchor business is a goat dairy and creamery.  We have been producing award-winning farmstead cheeses since 2008.  We also raise grass-fed and grass-finished beef together with pastured pork, poultry and eggs.  We sustainably manage adjoining forest lands as well, harvesting logs for a variety of wood products.

Asgaard is looking for an experienced and highly motivated person to help move our dairy business to the next level.  This person will be part of a small team, initially sharing responsibility for all aspects of cheese production, i.e. making our current repertoire of cheeses, developing new products, caring for aged cheeses, packaging finished products and managing the creamery environment.  The successful candidate will not only be a zealot for crafting extraordinary cheeses, they will also be obsessed with cleanliness and sanitation.  A strong work ethic, cooperative nature and positive “can do” attitude are essential.  Eventual ownership interest in this part of the business may be a possibility depending on the aspirations of the individual.

Our productive goat herd is Animal Welfare Approved.  Our creamery is modern and fully equipped.  We are knowledgeable, involved and supportive owners, joined by a handful of other skilled and creative farm staff.  Compensation includes paid time off and health insurance.  Housing is a possibility.  This is an opportunity to join a well-established farm with a hard-working and cohesive group of people who are passionate about healthy, delicious food that comes from sustainable, local agriculture.

Asgaard is situated along the Ausable River, about 25 miles from Lake Placid, NY to the southwest and Plattsburgh, NY to the northeast.  It is a 2-hour drive to Montreal, QC, to Burlington, VT or to Albany, NY.  A vibrant community of small farms populates this corner of the Adirondacks, including other creameries and cheesemakers.  The surrounding landscape is beautiful, and the area offers an abundance of recreational and cultural pursuits.
