2018 SEASON

Asgaard Farm & Dairy is a goat dairy, creamery and diversified livestock farm nestled in the breathtaking Adirondack State Park near Au Sable Forks, NY.  We intensively graze 60 milking does, a 100% grass-fed beef herd and meat goats. We raise broiler chickens and laying hens to provide fertility and parasite management for our pastures. Our creamery produces award-winning cheeses, caramels, soaps and delicious raw milk. We also raise pigs in our woodlands, and they are fed whey from the creamery. The farm is proud to be Animal Welfare Approved. We are part of a vibrant and diverse agricultural community within close proximity to the high peaks and Lake Champlain.  Montreal, Burlington, VT and Saratoga Springs, NY are not too far away.

We are looking for one more motivated, cheese-loving creamery intern!  

The Position This internship covers all aspects of the dairy, including milking the goats, sanitary handling/preparation of milk, making pasteurized and raw milk cheeses, caring for aged cheeses, packaging finished products and maintaining an immaculate creamery environment. You may also staff one of the farmers markets we attend.  We are looking for applicants who are passionate about cheese, local food and all things dairy. Previous food science training or culinary experience is a plus, but not a necessity. A high level of attention to detail is crucial.   Interns must have a strong work ethic, desire to learn, cooperative nature and positive “can do” attitude.  You should also be able to lift 50 lbs. with little to no difficulty.  There will be regular staff meetings to set priorities, establish work plans and discuss/solve problems.  Visits to other local farms and creameries will be encouraged and facilitated.   

Hours Interns will be expected to work 5 ½ days per week.  Days may be extra-long when certain cheeses are made, when staffing farmers markets or when special events are on the calendar. An assignment running from April through November would be ideal.  

Compensation Hands-on training in cheese making, affinage, dairy management and direct marketing - an excellent learning opportunity in a fun, collegial environment.  Comfortable housing on the farm in a charming, pastoral setting.  Two dwellings, each featuring 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, an eat-in-kitchen and a sitting room with shared laundry facilities.  Surplus food raised on the farm (chicken, pork, beef, goat meat, eggs, goat milk, goat cheese, veggies from a communal garden).  $200 weekly stipend.
