Internships

We Are Seeing Interns for Our 2019 Season!

Asgaard Farm & Dairy is a goat dairy, creamery and diversified livestock farm nestled in the breathtaking Adirondack State Park near Au Sable Forks, NY.  We are part of a vibrant and diverse agricultural community, within close proximity to the high peaks.

We intensively graze 60+ milking does and a 100% grass-fed beef herd alongside our broiler chickens, meat ducks and laying hens, which provide fertility and parasite management for our pastures. Our creamery produces seven distinct award-winning cheeses, caramels, soaps and delicious raw milk. We also raise pigs in our woodlands and they are fed whey from the creamery. The farm is proud to use organic management practices and be certified Animal Welfare Approved.

We are looking to fill three positions.

KIDDING INTERN (1): March-May 2019

Position This internship is an excellent experience for any one interested in learning all facets of dairy goat rearing and kidding. This internship will include (but is not limited to!) goat midwifery, bottle feeding of goat kids, health management of kids & dams, record keeping, milking the newly freshened does and preparing the farm & dairy for the impending season as well as joining in our annual community Kidding Day event!
We are looking for applicants who are passionate about goats, baby animals, getting dirty and bringing new life into the world! Previous dairy experience is a plus, but not a necessity. Interns must have a strong work ethic, desire to learn, cooperative nature, positive “can do” attitude and should be able to lift 50 lbs. with little to no difficulty.  You will be involved in regular staff meetings to set priorities and discuss/solve problems.

Hours Interns will be expected to work 5 days per week and should expect to have a rotating schedule consisting of early morning milkings to late night bottle feedings (not on the same days!). The internship runs from the beginning of March through the beginning of May with the option of extension.

We are looking for applicants who are passionate about working with animals, knowing where their food comes from, and being part of a hard-working team. Previous farming experience is a plus, but not a necessity.  You will be working mostly outdoors in variable weather conditions.
All interns must have a strong work ethic, cooperative nature, positive “can do” attitude, and should be able to lift 50 lbs. with little to no difficulty.  You will be involved in regular staff meetings to set priorities, establish work plans and discuss/solve problems.  You may also share in staffing of farmers markets, along with working in the communal garden.
