We are seeking a Farm Intern to help us finish out our 2018 season!

Asgaard Farm & Dairy is a goat dairy, creamery and diversified livestock farm nestled in the breathtaking Adirondack State Park near Au Sable Forks, NY.  We intensively graze 65 milking does, a 100% grass-fed beef herd, and meat goats. We raise broiler chickens & ducks, as well as laying hens to provide fertility and parasite management for our pastures. We also raise pigs in our woodlands and they are fed whey from our creamery which produces award-winning cheeses, caramels, soaps and delicious raw milk. We are proud to be Animal Welfare Approved.

We are part of a vibrant and diverse agricultural community, within close proximity to the high peaks.

FARMING INTERNSHIP Farm interns will participate in all aspects of a diversified livestock and dairy farm including multi-species rotational grazing, feeding and care of the various livestock groups, haymaking, poultry processing and milking our herd of 60+ does. We are looking for applicants who are passionate about working with animals, knowing where their food comes from, and being part of a hard-working team. Previous farming experience is a plus, but not a necessity.  You will be working mostly outdoors in variable weather conditions.

All interns must have a strong work ethic, keen observation skills, cooperative nature, positive “can do” attitude, and should be able to lift 50 lbs. with little to no difficulty.  You will be involved in regular staff meetings to set priorities, establish work plans and discuss/solve problems.  You may also share in staffing of farmers markets, along with working in the communal garden.  Visits to other farms and agricultural enterprises will be encouraged and facilitated.

HOURS Interns will work 5 ½ days per week.  Interns should expect to milk some mornings and evenings weekly.  Days may run extra-long when processing poultry, haymaking and staffing farmers markets or when special events are on the calendar. We do, however, we try to maintain a healthy and happy work environment and be mindful of everyone's needs.

An assignment beginning ASAP through November would be ideal.

COMPENSATION Hands-on training in animal husbandry, dairy management and direct marketing.  Comfortable housing on the farm in a charming, pastoral setting.  Two dwellings, each featuring 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, an eat-in-kitchen and a sitting room with shared laundry facilities.  Surplus food raised on the farm (chicken, pork, beef, goat meat, eggs, goat milk, goat cheese, veggies).  $200 weekly stipend.

If interested please email with a statement of interest, resume and references.
